Frequently Asked Questions
How does the BC Family Benefit work?
It pays up to $1,750 for your first child, $1,100 for the second and $900 for each additional child. Families with 2025 adjusted family net income under $30,176 get the maximum. Above that the benefit is reduced by 4% of the extra income, down to a guaranteed minimum of $775, $750 and $725, and that minimum is reduced to zero above $96,562.
Do I need to apply?
No. If your child is registered for the Canada Child Benefit and you file your tax return, the CRA pays the BC Family Benefit automatically with the CCB.
What is the single-parent supplement?
Low-income single parents can receive up to $500 a year per family. It is reduced as part of the overall calculation. This calculator adds it to the maximum for single-parent families as an estimate.
Is it taxable?
No. The BC Family Benefit is tax-free.
