FAQ
What is the OSFI B-20 stress test?
The OSFI B-20 mortgage stress test requires lenders to qualify borrowers at the higher of the Bank of Canada benchmark rate (5.25%) or the contract rate plus 2%. This ensures you can still afford payments if rates rise.
What is the GDS ratio?
The Gross Debt Service (GDS) ratio measures your housing costs (mortgage payment + property tax + heat + 50% of condo fees) as a percentage of your gross monthly income. The maximum allowed for insured mortgages in Canada is 39%.
GDS and TDS are shown at the qualifying rate (the greater of 5.25% or your rate plus 2%). The CMHC premium is included in the maximum mortgage. Only 50% of condo fees count toward the ratios. Property transfer tax shown is the standard BC rate before any exemption; use the Property Transfer Tax calculator for first-time buyer and newly built home exemptions.
